My first objective is to determine how skeletal muscle has evolved across mammals to generate different contraction speeds, force and endurance.
My second objective is to discover how the muscles of hibernating mammals resist atrophy during prolonged inactivity and food deprivation.
To achieve this, we will combine approaches from comparative genomics, physiology and evolutionary biology in an original manner.
